Events and ActivitiesWith the rapid development of space, computer and communication technology, geospatial information technology changes quickly and provides comprehensive technical support and information service in the field of resources, environment, transport, urban development and many other fields closely related to social sustainable development. Also it offers information and decision supports for prediction, early warning, risk assessment, contingency scheduling, decision optimizing and post-disaster reconstruction, etc. The geospatial information technology has become an important technical tool in the world for public security construction. Especially in the Earthquake of Wenchuan, China which happened on May 12, 2008, Chinese surveying and mapping professionals, by using geospatial information technology, have provided all kinds of geographic information and mapping technology services in a quick time and met with the urgent requirement of geospatial data for various aspects of earthquake relief activities and post-disaster reconstruction. October 2009 is the 50th anniversary of founding of Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping (CASM). Over the past 50 years of development, CASM has always been accomplished by the active supports from domestic and overseas colleagues. In this celebration event, CASM will organize an International Conference on "Geo-Spatial Solutions for Emergency Management", presenting the latest techinical development, sharing the valuable experiences and providing technical advices and solutions for constructing harmonious society together and promoting common development of geospatial information technology around the world.
